Youth Speaks 2017

Abbotsolme played host to the Uttoxeter 'Youth Speaks' Public Speaking competition on Thursday 18 May. Millie from Year 7 achieved second place in the competition. The event involves pupils from Year 7-8 making speeches of 5 minutes duration on a subject of their choice. They are judged by a panel, for content, structure and delivery. Millie chose the subject of cruelty to animals and delivered a well-structured and well-researched speech, with style and confidence. We are very proud of her achievement. All of the speakers, drawn from Abbotsholme, Oldfields and Windsor Park, impressed the judges with their courage, confidence and effort. Abbotsholme aims to provide all pupils with chances to develop their confidence in speaking to audiences and their ability to relate effortlessly to people older than themselves. All the Abbotsholme girls (the others being Mikah and Caitlin) are to be commended for seizing this opportunity to develop a valuable life skill. Thanks also go to Mrs Brown who supported the girls in preparation for the event.
