The Year 7 pupils have been collecting food to take to the Stoke foodbank in Blurton. Food was donated on a recent Mufti Day and money raised was also used to buy the items that were needed by the Trussell Trust. The campaign is run by Free The Children and is called ‘We Scare Hunger’.
In the UK today, one in five children lives below the poverty line. This shocking figure reveals that families go hungry every day, and for many, the local foodbank is their only support. Foodbanks offer emergency, short-term food supplies to people, the majority of whom are working, who find themselves struggling to feed their families. The demand for donations to these foodbanks is higher than ever. The pupils were given a tour of the warehouse and had time to ask questions about the foodbank.
